Ah, Fall is here! The air is crisp, the sun is shining, and the leaves are turning beautiful colors. Since I’m behind on taking down my summer vibes, I began looking for inspiration before starting to decorate for autumn. My favorite sources, online searches and design magazines, didn’t fail me. What I found were dreamy rooms filled with plush pillows and throw blankets, warm fires burning, and lots of great lighting. I am excited to use things I already own to make the spaces feel fresh and new. Lamps and pillows especially make their way around the house from time to time. And since my favorite inspiration is always mother-nature, I chose the ones that I think fit in well with the lush landscapes, glistening lakes, and tall trees of Virginia. I don’t know if I will end up using all these ideas but here are my 5 most favorite decor trends for fall 2020.
1. Vintage Pieces
One of the many fall decor trends is highlighting vintages pieces. Northern Virginia is great for all types of shopping in the fall, especially vintage shopping in Virginia. There are so many antique stores and auctions to choose from. And autumn is the prefect time to display your favorite finds, winning pieces, travel mementos, bargain flea market bits, and family heirlooms. They include rugs, art, furniture, and decorative accents. As families come together for the holidays, nothing brings great memories like old stories. These pieces always have a great story. They can also be a great conversation starter and sometimes makes for a good joke.
2. Velvet
I am glad that velvet is still in the game this fall. By the way, thank you NFL for coming back into my life.
Velvet feels amazing and adds a gorgeous texture to an otherwise boring room. Heavier fabrics seem to make any space feel cozier. Throw pillows also offer a cost-effective way to bring bright colors into neutral rooms. The high contrast is another trend this fall and looks amazing. If you are interested in finding some great velvet throw pillow covers in an assortment of colors for under $20, shoot me an email at: [email protected]. I am happy to send you a link.
3. Blue and Pastel Palettes
Pantone’s Color of the Year 2020, Classic Blue, and all its hues, is still making its impact on home decor. It keeps popping up in articles and in images, like these. They are well paired with more neutral, natural, and pastel colors. With the perfect autumn pumpkin, you cant go wrong. The result is outstanding.
4. Rugs in Subtle Fall Colors
Rugs of assorted textures and designs add to the fall atmosphere. In subtle and soft colors, they bring warmth and add a welcoming feel to any room. Plus, they are very practical when the temperatures drop and the floors get cold.
5. Eucalyptus
I love nature and was pleased to see that this gorgeous little plant made into several articles including this one from Architectural Digest. Plus, Virginia grows the eucalyptus so there should be easy to find and add to your decor this fall. It smells amazing and its soft color makes it fit in well in almost any room. They also last forever, which means you wont have to change them out too often.
Parting Thoughts!
Decorating in Fall 2020, like the rest of 2020, may not be “business as usual”. During these changing times, we can agree that dressing your home shouldn’t feel forced or cost a lot of money. Hopefully you already have some of these things around the house or in storage. The little things get away from us sometimes and the important things never do – as it should be. If you are in the mood, I hope these ideas help. And I hope you enjoyed these 5 decor trends for fall 2020.
