The Bull Run Nature Preserve
The Bull Run Mountains are the most easterly mountain chain in Virginia, and include unique ecosystems and headwaters of the Occoquan and Goose Creek watersheds. This is a great place to start exploring the natural beauty of Northern Virginia.
A great first hike is the Bull Run Mountain Green Loop. This is a 3.7 mile heavily-trafficked loop located near Broad Run, Virginia that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips and is best used from March until November.
And what better way to enjoy the outdoors than hiking the historic Bull Run Mountains and learning about preservation of this beautiful lands through the Bull Run Mountains Conservancy (BRMC). The BRMC is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1994 to protect the Bull Run Mountains through education, research, and stewardship. Located in Broad Run, Virginia, BRMC promotes the preservation and improvement of the area’s natural resources through education, fund raising, and promoting scientific research. BRMC offers ongoing educational events including hikes, tours, and presentations. Visit their Website for more information.
