Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
The Udvar-Hazy Center is the companion facility to the other Smithsonian Museum on the National Mall in Washington, DC and a must-see if you live in the Northern Virginia area. It’s just the right size for kids to see everything without getting tired and lots of activities to keep them busy and happy while they learn.
The center boasts an Airbus IMAX® Theater, the Donald D. Engen Observation Tower, and the Mary Baker Engen Restoration Hangar. Serious researchers will also find the majority of the Archives’ collections at the Udvar-Hazy Center reading room. They offer special programming throughout the year including annual Family Days, star-gazing parties, and evening lectures.
The simulators are a lot of fun and the view from the observation tower is outstanding. There are also two large hangars display thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a Concorde, and the Space Shuttle Discovery. To top it all off, you can have a meal while you visit and lots of shopping for the whole family.
